MASTERTON COMPETITIONS.
The third annual festival of music and elocution promoted by the Masterton Competitions Society, is rapidly approa-ching, and the entries close in arother month fi'om now. The committee have prepared a mo-st creditable syllabus, and liavo spared 110 expense in distributing copies of ifc broadcast. In the expectation and hope of receiving numerous entries from local and outside competitors -at the. festival. Altogether about £2OO is offered in prize money to successful candidates for the judge's decision. Mr Harold Greason, an accomplished Auckland organist, is the adjudictor appointed in musical sections, whilst Mr .T. !*'. Montague (also of Auckland) will act similarly in elocutionary sections. Xo less than i'K) is offered in two prizes for the successful church choirs in competition, and it. surely behoves our local choirs to be up and by perseverance and strenuous rehearsals, to retain that prize in Mnsterton. There is some likelihood of several visiting choirs competing in this section, and great interest will naturally be aroused in connection with it. Valuable prizes are offered for solos of all kinds, bo+li voc.aj and instrumental, foi* recitations, essays, poems, readings, etc., etc., and n perusal of the schedule will repay anyonegifted with musical or literary aspirations. Mr W. Glillesoie, the secretary of the Mnsterton Competitions Society, will be very pleased to answer any questions relating to the forthcoming festival, and to send a svllabus to anyone requiring-same.. The competitions will lie held in the week commencing Monday. July 21st, and entiles close with the secretary on Thursday, June 19th.
