MR DAVID McLAREN.
Nobody can deny that Mr David McLaren} ex-Mayor (ojf the city of Wellington, has d'voted a gi;uu d6m of his time to the transaction of public business. The burgesses of the city showed their appreciation of his efforts b turning him down at the election a week or two back. Xou we find a number of "prominent cit:y.rx'hs" falling over one another, as it uvro, to do him honour, -ihey are going so far as to apply the salve of sovereigns to his wounded dignity. For ourselves, we like honesty ;n public life! as we appreciate juf.'tice ant! fairplay on the part of private citizen's. If th 3 "prominent citizens" o! Wellington are sincere in their desire to recognise the services of Mi McLaren, well and good. In all tho circumstances, however, we. will be pardoned for saying that, we "hae oor doots."
