THE NEW HEBRIDES.
PROBLEM OF DUAL CONTROL
(Received May 12, 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, May 12. The Rev. Frecl Patton, son of the famous pioneer missionary of the New Hebrides, and himself a missionary there, declares that, there is only on© ■satisfactory way of solving the problem of the control of the Islands—namely, buying out the French interests.' He estimates that it would cost from £250,000 to £300,000 to do so, but the expenditure should b© regarded as an insurance, since the group in its present condition constitutes a positive menace to Australia. Japanese and Tongkingese are pouring into New Caledonia, whence they can easily go to the New Hebrides. He suggests that Australia and New Zealand should combine in the acquisition of the group.
