IMPERIAL CONFERENCE.
AND UNITY OF EMPIRE,
(Received Last .Night, 10.45 o'clock.) LONDON, May 9. In the House of Commons, on a motion for adjournment, Mr PageCourt raised the question of converting the Imperial Conference into a Permanent Advisory Council. The Rt. Hon. L. Harcourt, in reply, referred to the labours of 'the Dominion's Commission, and also to the Government's efforts to cheapen the cables, and direct emigration towards the Dominions, instead of to foreign countries. The Imperial Conference had rejected the AdvisorCouncil, but the Dominions had been admitted to the Defence .Committee, a plan which for the present was satisfactory and satisfying. It might lead to more rigorous ties in future, but he doubted if it could -possibly lead tp closer comnunian. He was confident it had secured the solidarity of the Imperial community,'-and greatly'contributed to the unity of tho British race. '
