MONTHLY MEETING
The monthly meeting of the Mastertoh Trust Lands Trust was held in tlie Trust Buildings lasx evening, there being present —Messrs B. -vrahagen, W. H. Jackson. A. W. Hogg, D. Gaselherg, G. m. Daniell apd 1. B. Michell. ; Apologies-for., ajbsence wen? received from-M'esW 0. N. O. Pragnelll and T. Wagg. The Returning, . Officer forwarded the resignation of Mr it. C. L. Robinson as a Trustee.—Accepted. Tho treasurer's report, showing a debit balance of £620 9s Bd, was read oind approved. A communication was forwarded from th*> Public Trust Office, enclosing a/Statement of .Sinking Fund Ac-count.—-Rtcei veil. Mr A. R. Bunny forwa«-ded mortgage of lease fa-ran A. McKain to A, Matthews for consent of Trustees.— Granted. Mr "A. R. Bunmy forward)xl assignment of lease.from Ah Lop to P. Cotter for.the consent of the Trustees.—Giranted. ; Mr M. Kvjrins wrote, offering to least s?ction part 29 for another y«w. It was decided to accept the offer, OH fhe "same terms as previously, for another yeai'. Communications from the Lans*downjy School ■Committee- and St. Patrick's School Committee, forwarding number of scholars on the roll, were received.
The Chairman, in .moving the adoption of the annual report and. balance»b,3et, said that the .report gave a clear statement of the work done by the Trustees during the past year. Mr Daniell, im seconding the report, said tho Trustees had even reason to be proud with tho work done in the past year. The building policy undertaken by the Trustees had more than jußufied itself. Tlie money spent on the Town Hall had given good results, and the town now had a fiirna, up-to-date theatre. T)i*> small sums voted to bands an.* othpr minor institutions had \bcen well spent. Primary education had been well served, the sum of £-58? having been spent in this direction, amd the n'wilts were such that the Trustees had good reason to feel i satisfied with. .Taking the report as a whole, he thought the Trustees should tfpel pleased with the year's work.
Mr A. "W. Hogg congratulated the! Chairman and older Trustees en the' eminently satisfactory report. The.', buildings erected by the Trust an ornament to the town, and the money spent on education and other local institutions nad been used in a xrsoful manner. He was sure the electors had been well and economically served. Mr Jackson thought it was a master for congratulation ,tha.t the building scheme had been such a suco*s«. This was due to the fact that tho93 Trustees who urg.d the buildv'g scheme, had made sun 3 that good tenants weire available before the work was procecoed with. Mr Oasclh »rg said the building scheme had proved a fine investment, and there was no doubt but that if the building policy was continued, th? Trust would have more funds at th,>ir disposal, u> expend on higher, as
weJl a.s primary, education. The Town Hall had been greatly improved by the installation of the ehctric ligbt, and now Masterton has as fine a public theatra a.s any town of the same size in the Dominion. H( thought the Trustees had every reason t« be satisfied with the yoar's work. . Mr Michelt endorsed the remark 1 - of hi-y colleagues. He agresd entirely with the building scheme, and thought the .comer of the star block should be built in brick. As to the Town Hall, In thought money must be spent to keep the building in an up-to-date condition. » The anniuil report and balancesheet were then adeptvd unanimously, it being also decided that a copy of the report be issued to electors along with thi? anarual balance-sheet. The Building Committee's report was read and adopted. Accounts amounting -o £'S4 9s 4c 1 were passed for payment.
