MASTERTON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING.

The fifth annual general meeting of the Masterton Horticultural and Industrial Society was held last evening, Mr G. O, SummereJl (Vice-Presi-dent) presiding over aim attendance of about twentw members. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs G. W. Sellar M, R. Varnham and Mrs Wood. The Chairman, in moving th<? adbp*. tion of the annual report and balance?- ■ sheet (already published), congratulated the Society upom experiencing another successful year, also \ipon the fact that new exhibitors were yearly coming forward. The election of officers for the en-> suing'year resulted as follows: President, Mr -Gi. Vv. Sellar; Vica-Pre-sident, Messrs E. Hale and G. O. Sumimerell; general committee, Messrs" J. G.. Alpass, J. S. Berriman, J. Caselberg, H. J. Oassin, R. J. Dixon, Alex; 'Henderson, W. H. Hirschberg, W. Kemp, E. P. Montfort, J. B. Nicol, H. L. ißobcnson, M. R. Varnham, Mesdames J. C. Cooper, D. M. Graham, R. V. Harden,. E. R. Howell, J. B. Moodie, A. C. Morgan, G. W. Sellar, R. 0. Smith, H. T. .iWood and Miss Payton; auditor, Mr A. D. Low; secretary and treasurer, Mr H. M. Boddington. The following' amendment to the rules was agreed to: "That members paying 10s per annum receive four tickets, amtf that members paying 5s per annum receive two tickets." The reason for the alteration to the rule was that everyone attending- the shows must present a ticket at tho door.

The following recommendations to the incomuig committee were agreed to: The arranging of lectures on fruit and. ihower culture; reinstating cot tage garden competitions; that the prize money for collection of fruit, flowers and vegetables be increased, and that th e judging of fruit, etc., be' on points. A vote of thanks to the press and chairman concluded a satisfactory meeting. -
