MOTOR TAXATION.

DISCUSSION AT BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A letter wks received at last evening's meeting of the Mastrtnn Borough Council from the Woodville Borough Council, asking the Council to endorse a resolution passed by the Woodville body in favour of representations being made to the Government to place a. moderate tax on motor cars and motor cycles, the* amount raised to be expended balneal bodies in 'maintaining and improving the roads, a special board to be set up to allocate the proceeds, and that a higher tax be imposed on cars plying for hire. The Mayor sa:id he could hardly see how motors and motor cycles could bo taxed as proposed by the Woodville Borough . It-was a matter for the discussion of the Council. Cr Ewington moved that the Woodville Council he informed that tin Masterton Council could not ■see its way clear to support 'the resolution. Cr Flanagan, in seconding the motion, pro forma, thought motor cars and cycles should be brought into line with other which h:it' to pay annual licenses. He quite agreed that motors should be specially taxed, but he uid not agree that cars plying for hire, should be taxed at a higher rate.
