In the coxirso of a ronforQiiee witli representatives of the Girls' Friendly Society on the' subject of the care of female immigrants on their arrival, the Hon. H. D. Bell referred to the inaccurate reports regarding tlie Government's immigration policy. Some people persisted in declaring that the Government had made arrangement!-; to bring 2.5,000 immigrants into the country. Such talk was merel.y a stupid invention. /" They were going to largely increase the number of domestic servants and to increase, but not so largely, the number of labourers. They had not yet decided how many factory labourers, if any, it was desirable to bring into the country. ,
