TO-DAY'S GAMES
The championship matches under the Waira-rapa Rugby Union commence. this afternoon. The wea-ther conditions will apparently not he favourable. but may improve before the games begin. The. grounds should be in good order,"as after the long .spell of dry weather, they were exceedingly hard, and the downpour of the past day or two should prove, beneficial. Senior matches will he confined to Cartel-ion and Greytown, the Masterton Club having decided to forfait to Carterton. Tho shortage of players has brought this a,bout, and is much to lie. regretted, hut it is probable that by next .Saturday the blacks will be able to put a fifteen in the field. A.t Carterton. Stars and Martinborough will try conclusions, and from all accounts ft good game should result. The experience of the local team should give them an advantage, as the Martinborough Club have not had much opportunity of playing together. Mr E. Mckenzie will referee. At Greytown, Gladstone (Yunnersup in last year's championship) will meet the newly-formed Feat-herston-Greytown Club. The latter should be able to get a very «trmio- team, and plaving at home, should 'keep the amber and blacks very busy. Mr A. E. Booth will referee. A number of junior and third grade games wffl also be played. lied Star thirds will meet Carterton third* on the old showgrounds, this being the only ;inatch played in Masterton.
