FALL FROM A TRAIN.
A WAIRARAPA* GIRL. - MIRACULOUS ESCAPE. The Manawatu Times of yesterday says:—A young girl had a- terrible experience on the Woodville to .Master ton train on Monday morning. Travelling early to school, two girl friends from Mauriceville were in one of the carriages, and having shown her ticket, one went on to the platform. Her friend, Violet Jensen, followed suit, and thinking the gate was shut she leant back. The train was travelling at about 30 miles an hour. Mr Eberhard, of Palmerston, who was in the carriage, says he jumped up in a terrible scare as he saw the girl fall outwards, twist over, and disappear. The guard was in the carriage, and he darted back to the van and applied the. brakes. The train soon came to a stop a nd was backed to the scene of the accident. The girl was found lying on her face beside the line. She was put on board the train, and at the next station Masterton was communicated with. At Masterton a doctor was awaiting her arrival on the platform, and she received medical attention. She had fallen on the back of her head, and was unconscious, hut it was expected she would recover.
