THE PUBLIC TRUST OFFICE.
The report of the Royal Commission set up to investigate the affairs of the Public Trust Office leave* no room for doubt but that the estates placed in the bands of the Public Trustee have been carefully administered. Several important recommendations are, however, made by the Commissioners, which should, if given effect to, place the Office on a still more satisfactory footing. We cannot say that we approve of the suggestion that two other persons should be added to the Board o.f Management. We believe that the addition of the Valuer-Gen-eral would be quite sufficient to safeguard the interests of those whose capital is invested in broad-acres. The suggestion that the solicitor to the Trust and his. staff should not giva outside advice is a very proper one, though the proposal to decentralise dof»s not appear as practicable as it would seem desirable.
