Mr iFelix MoGuire, ex-iM.P., is to be entertained by his former constituents at Hawera on the 30th inst. A London cable l-ecords the death of LordLovell of Brampton, ex-Judge of the High Court of Justice, in his 65th year. Mr George Pearce, wlio left for England, returned from Australia by the Maungamii on Wednesday, owing to the death of his wife in Sydney last week. The South Canterbury Education Board yesterday selected Mr J. A. Valentine, 8.A., headmaster of the Timaru South School, from twentytwo applicants, for the position of Secretary and assistant Inspector. iMr K. J. McLennan, who has been on a trip to the Old.Country,- returned to Pahdatua on Tuesday. The voyage was undertaken for the benefit of Mr McLennan'fi health, but his friends will be sorry to hear that Mr McLennan. is not yet restored to good health. Mrs 0. 8.. Fairbrother, of Carterton, Mho some months ago was advised to visit Australia for the benefit of her health, found it necessary to undergo an opera lon in Brisbane last week, and her friends wi'i be pleased to J.ear that cable aU'-ice has be-en received that she is now doing well. The Rev Joseph Hancock, who celebrated his 91st birthday on February 14th last, and who was the oldest Methodist minister in South Austral* i died last week. Mr J. 0. Kettle, who was wellknown in Dunedin, died there <:n Thursday last. About three weeks ago he underwent an operation; and never regained strength afterwards. He was a son of the late Mr C. H. Kettle, and a brother of Mr C. C Kettle, S.M., of Auckland.
