LABOUR PARTY.
MEETING IN MASTERTON. THE HALF-HOLIDAY QUESTION. ' At a well attended meeting of the Masterton branch of the United. Labour Par£y anil Trades UmdiLsl last j night, a letter was read from the \ Chamber of Commerce, asking if the Labour organisation, would be favourable to holding Labour. Day on the Saturday following Good Friday, so as to secure a combined holiday. After discussion, a motion was carried approving of the suggestion. The meeting decided to support the following candidates at the Municipal election: Messrs Candy, Flanagan, Falconer,' McEwen, Kemp and O'Leary. Some discussion took place in reference to the school committee election on Monday evening. It was generally agreed that the present committee had rendered valuable (service during the last year, and a resolution was passed unanimously in favour of reelecting the present members. It was decided to communicate with the Chamber of Commerce, requesting that body to take the initiative in asking the Government to establish a universal half-holiday. The question of the formation of a Trades and Labour Council was brought up, but it was decided to postpone any action till after the Labour Conference in July. There i s every probability that the municipal candidates who have been selected will place their views before the electors at a- meeting previous the poll.
