SIR W. C. BUCHANAN

INQUIRIES INTO THE HANDLING OF MEAT. A London correspondent writes: — Sir Walter Buchanan visited Smithfield Market this week and investigated generally the state of the New Zealand frozen produce displayed for sale. Speaking'to me yesterday, he said: "I am disappointed at finding, after the lapse of so many years, so much damage still being done to NewZealand meat by rough handling. I had the pleasure of interviewing this morning the Secretary of the Port of .London Authority, and I am exceedingly pleased to find from him strong evidences, that they are determined to make a great improvement in the handling of frozen meat, through trie use of special conveyors, which will obviate much of the rough, treatment to which meat has'hltherto been subjected."
