THE FARMERS' UNION.

The Farmers' Union in the Wairarapa appears to have taken a new lease of life. The farmers are beginning to realise that combination in necessary, not only for protection against

outside aggressive elements, but to ensure the better development of the primary industries. The visit to the district of Mr A. IH. Cockayne, 'Government Biologist, is in itself an evidence of a desire on the part of occupiers of the soil to acquire knowledge. Mr Cockayne is anxious/that farmers should et the most from theri laud, and he tells them how to do it without impoverishing the soil. Should the farmers, by their attendance at the lecture, show their appreciation of the desire of the Government and the Department to foster the agricultural interests, it is probable that arrangements will be made for a series of lectures by- Government experts during the winter months.
