A London cable states that Archbishop Clarke, of Melbourne, is in a critical condition from pneumonia and bronchitis, at Kendall, England. Messrs W .0. Lamb and W. Candy were yesterday nominated for seats on the Masterton Borough Council. The former was nominated by Messrs W. H. Hosking and J. O. Boddington, and the latter by Messrs J. S. Beriyjnan and H. T. Wood. Mr J. 0. Ewington was yesterday nominated by Messrs "J. B. Keith and P. W. Temple for a seat on the Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. A London cable, received last night, stated that Sir Charles D. Rose, Liberal member for Newmarket, and formerly a member of the American banking firm of Morton, Rose and Co., died suddenly in his motor car after making an aeroplane ascent. Mr S. Bolton, Mrs; Bolton and the Misses M. and B. Bolton will leave Wellington by the Ruapehu on May 29th on a trip to the Old Country. Mr Bolton intends being back in the Dominion before the end of November. A quiet wedding ook place at the Presbyterian Manse, Featherston, on Friday afternoon., when Mr George Forrester Burns, late of Glasgow, was married to Miss Jemina Amelia ltobson, late of Sunderland. The Rev G. K. Stowell was-officiating minister. Mr Lee, custodian of the Masterton golf links, was for some tiiae on the estate of the father .of Captain Halsov, of H.M.S. New Zealand. On the arrival of. the maW-war a»t Wellington, Mr Lee placed hinyself in communication, wini Captain Halsey, and received a cordial invitation to visit tlu» warship, which he accepted.
