RAILWAY CROSSINGS.
The tragic death of Mr E. W: Broad at Marton last week will serve to emphasise the necessity 'for immediate action, to minimise the danger of accident at railway crossings. The number of fatalities that have occurred at railway crossings in the iDominion in recent years has been alarniing. Th? Government has been urged to take action in the matter, and it was announced a month or two back that a detailed report wag being obtained concerning the whole of the crossings. Whether this report has been completed, we cannot say. We do know, howvver, that the State has a moral responsibility cast upon it to safeguard the lives of the.travelling public, and a Government that allows the present death-traps to remain one moment longer than is absolut?ly necessary .is morally culpable in the event of -accident.
