A London cable states that Herbert Druce ,who was prominent in the celebrated Druce case, is dead. The marriage of the Hon J. A. Millar to Mi's Nathn.ii> takes place at Wellington to-day. Mr W. D. Lysnar, who delivers an, address in Eketaiiuna to-day, was a visitor to Masterton last evening. The Rev. Horace Packe, vicar of' St. John's, Invercargill, has been appointed Archdeacon of tlie Southland district.
Mr C. HausmaJiii was yesterday elected to fill the vacancy on the committee of the Masterton Comptitions Society caiused by the resignation of Mr D. B. Clough, .Mr D. A. Strachan, M.A., at present Inspector of Schools in the Marlborough .Education Board District, was yesterday appointed Assistant-Inspec-tor under the Hawke's Bay Education Board.
Ven. Archdeacon Hobhouse, son of Dr Edmund Hobhouse, formerly Bishop of Nelson, has been appointed Residential Canon of Gloucester. Feilding, who has just resigned his position as gatekeeper of the Wairarapa Rugby Football Union, after over 25 years' service, has received! a letter to the following effect from the Hon. Sec., of the W.R.F.U.: —"Deal' Sir, —At the annual meeting of-the W.R.F.U.. your resignation as a. Union gatekeeper was accepted with regret. I am directed to convey to you the Union's thanks for your long arid faithful service. Collerton. who has been in charge of the Tinui police station for a long number of years, is about to retire from the .service. At the age of twenty-two, Mr Collerton joined the Victoria police force, in which he was recognised as a promising young officer. The people of the Tinui and I Castlepoint districts intend showing their appreciation of the many ser- ■ vices rendered by Mr Collerton, and [ will entertain him at a social on Frii day, April 26th, when he will receive a presentation.
