SPORTING.
THE MASTERTON MEETING. Owners and trainers are " reminded that acceptances for the first day of the Masterton ißacing Club's Autumn meeting, are due with the secretary (Mr A. Hathaway) on Friday evening. The Club has been successful in arranging for a satisfactory railway time-table, which will enable visitors from Wellington and stations to the .north to travel to and. fro on the same day. A number of visiting horses have already arrived, and the tracks at Opaki are beginning to assume a busy appearance each morning. Judging by the inquiries for boxes there should W a large number of outside horses competing at the meeting, which gives every promise of being one of the most successful yet held by the Club. The stewards of the Wellington Racing Club have decided to increase the stakes for the winter meeting by £4OO over last year's winter meeting. It was also resolved to retain the St. Leger Stakes on tHiie Autumn programme.
