INTERVIEW WITH OOMMANDEtt EVANS. DENIAL OF RUMOURS. (Received Last Night, 9.10 o'clock.J LONDON, April U. A representative of the Central flews Agency had an interview with Commander Evans at Port Said The Commander denied the rumourA regarding Petty Officer Evans. Ha said nothing had been withheld regarding his fate. He behaved magnificently, and there was certainly k» friction with the rest of the southern party. There was no reason to believe that he became insane. H* possibly suffered from scurvy but of this Commander Evans said* he ha<* no knowledge. He was only earned on the sledge on the day of his death The members of the expedition had not seen the five diaries, which had been handed to the relatives. It was untrue that there were any features in the final tragedy deliberately suppressed. The bodies were very emaciated. Captain Scotfc and the others all wrote farewell letters to their wives and relatives. I* Atkinson and Koehane had pushea further south, there would have, been seven deaths instead of five.
