THE HARBOUR BOARD.
The Wellington Harbour Board election is arousing very little interest or enthusiasm, so tar as the Wairarapa is concerned. This is probably due to several reasons. In the first place the district ig satisfied with its present representatives. In the second,' as it is not directly taxed, it feels no special interest in the control of the harbour. In the third, it knoivs that if there is an election the expense will l>e out of all proportion to the advantage to be derived. The present method of selecting members of tk» Board may be considered demo-
cratic, notwithstanding that a proportion are nominated br the Government, But our experience of the -working of the new system has not impressed us with its economy. An improvement might well be effected.
