CANADIAN NAVY DEBATE.
NEW ZEALAND'S DREADNOUGHT GIFT. A CLOSURE BILL THREATENED. i Received Last Night, 9.35 o'clock.) OTTAWA, April 9. In the course of the Navv the Hon W. F. White, Minister of Finances, declared that the Cabinet \va« as strongly opposed to periodical contributions to the Imperial Navy as I were the Liberals. Amid all the talk of autonomy, during 1909 New Zealand gave a Dreadnought. This action was approved throughout the world as one of the golden deeds in the Empire's history. Sir Wilfrid Laurier'B policy was mere political expediency which it was never intended to fructify. If Canada decided in favour of a local navy as a permanent policy, then the Conservatives would agree, but the first gift of three Dreadnoughts must be made to the Motherland.
Mr Borden, Prime Minister, is preparing to introduce a Closure Bill.
