HUKANUI SPORTS.
A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING
Tlie third annual meeting of the Hukanui Sports and Picnic Club was held yesterday on the Club's beautiful groimds, near t j le ra ji way station. The weather was showery at times, but tin's did not prevent a large attendance of the public of the FortyMile Bus'li. The programme was the most complete yet put on by this popular Club, and included 'several interesting events in the way of trotting and hunters' competitions. The competition for the Hukanui Rose Bowl, valued at. £l2, to be won twice in succession or three times at intervals, produced a large field. The winner, Mr J. Hogan' s Master Webb, jumped in great style, but was closely follo'wed by Mr Baby's All Gold iii the second place. The success of the meeting wa s largely due to the excellent manner in which the secretary, Mr E. A. Harrington, and his energetic committee carried out their duties, and this year's meeting can be considered as the l>est yet held in the district. The results of the events were as follow: 100 Yards Maiden Handicap.—Vogfc 1, Woodhey 2. Local Trot.—C. Udv's Rita 1, C. Udy's Election 2. 100 Yard s Handicap.—Vogt 1, Mexted 2. . Open Chop, Standing Block.—C. C-avanna.lv 1. J. Isaksen 2. 220 Yards Handicap.—W. Ryan and H. S. Mexted, <je-ad heat, 1. * Open Trot, 3 miles— C. Udy's Rita 'l, C. Udy's Election 2. Stepping the Chain.—Messrs Sykes and Foss, dead heat, 1, W. J. White 3. Best Lady Rider.—Miss Daldy 1, Miss Hagen 2. Under Hand Chop.—R. Wills 1, 0. Rohde 2. .
