THE HALF-HOLIDAY QUESTION.
NO POLL IN WELLINGTON, {By Telegraph. — Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Last Night. A scrutiny of the names to the petition asking for a poll on the Saturday half-holiday question, has shown that of 6570 signatures attached to the requisition, only 2673 were passed as valid. Mr Palmer, Town Clerk, reporting to the City Council, states that the total number of electors on the combined rolls, including Karori, tfcKiow, Miramar and Johnsonville, is ■H&7B, and of these ten per cent, was necessary for the holding of a poll. The valid figures were therefore 81 short. The Town Clerk states that, in these circumstances, he is unable to issue ratructicms for a poll to he ■taken.
