RAINFALL STATISTICS.

The decision of the Meteorological Office to secure detailed observations from various parts of the Dominion concerning the rise and fall of rivers is of great importance to the farming community. The lives of thousands oi .S'tock in Southland might have been saved recently had there been accurate information concerning the rainfall in the upper reaches of the rivers. The Meteorological Office is doing excellent work in advising farmers of the daily weather condition's and the prospects for a few clays ahead. But it will render a still greater service .to th© country if it can issue timely warnings against approaching floods in the different districts.
