TOWN HALL PICTURES. "A GIRL FROM THE COUNTRY." To-night the ■Masterton Picture Company will introduce at the Town Hall an'Asta Neilsen dramatic picture, "A Girl from the Country." A spy disguised as a painter introduces himseif to a gipsy girl -whom he induces to flirt 'with a lieutenant of the military with the object of obtaining the plans of a strongly fortified "castle," which, the. management as-' sort, is in one of the 'Balkan States. The Gipsy girl (Asta .Neilsen) tises her arts with effect, and secures the plniiTS. The lieutenant is arrested as a traitor, and condemned to be shot. The Gipsy girl, however, has. grown to love tlie lieutenant, so she hurries to the castle to appeal for clemency for the man sihe loves ,but arrives too late, for her lover has just been shot, while .she herself is arrested and imprisoned for life. "The Barrier," "Forbidden Love," and sundry comics and scenles will fill up an excellent programme for sensation, amusement and'instruction. The Town Hall Pictures are now under new management, the expert services of Mr A. ,R; T. Thompson having been* specially secured. The 'Masterton Symphony Orchestra., under the ha ton of Mr J. Candy, will discourse sweet music, and everything will be provided to give the'visitors a good time. The usual prices for admission will he charged. There will he no matinee •to-day, hut there 'will be a. matinee on every future Saturday at matinee prices, with orchestra im attendance.
THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES. "LORD AND PEASANT." To-night the T.-P. Electro Theatre patrons 'will he given a rare, treat, in film productions, as the . change of programme contains some excellent features. "Lord and Peasant," an Edison feature drama., is probably the pick of the bunch. It is a very fine class lesson, showing the combination of the -efforts of a .poor against- a rich partisan. "A Struggle of Hearts" is a 'Lubfrn drama of considerable merit, •while "Two Little Riangers," a Selig film', will provide all that is necessary in the Western element. "The Singer" is an unusual .street type of drama, which, will appeal to all. It •features the popular "Miss Alice Joyce," and she plays her part in her usual unapproachable style. The story gives a. plaintive and appealing side' to the life of a poor street singer girl in tlhe streets of New York. "Alkali Ike Stung" presents Augustus arney again in one of his funniest Western series-. The latest topical items 'will be illustrated by "The Eclair Journal." Two films of interest will he "Forest to Mill" and "The Preservation of Animals." The comedv section is well represented, pin-d includes "Sanctioning of Mr Stout." "A Love Philtre" and "Bessie's Dream." At 2.30 to-dav there will be a srrand matinee, when some good fun will he provided for everyone
