MAJOR-GENERAL GODLEY.
TOUR OF INSPECTION. . THROUGHOUT THE WAIRA--1 RARAPA. Major-Glenoral Godley commenced a. tour of inspection of the Senior Cadet companies in the Wairarapa yesterday. Tihe General, accompanied By Mrs Godley and Lieut. Rhodes, A.D'.O., arrived at Featherston on Tuesday, and wag met by Major Tate, Captain Braddelj and Mr W. E. Bidwill. The party proceeded to the, residence of Mr Bidwill, whose guests they were, that evening. . At 1 o'clock yesterday the General inspected the iFeatherston section of No. 87 company, twenty-two cadets being-jon parade. From Featherstoiii tlie party proceeded by motor to Martinborougii, where the Martinborough section of'cadets was inspected. The next point of call was Greytown, where an inspection of that section followed. 27 being on parade. From Greytown tlie Commandant and party motored to Carterton, arriving there at 6 p.m., being received by the Mayor (Mr Foist-)-, and Majors Skey, Lieutenant Hart, and many prominent citizens. After dinner, at the Marquis Hotel, the Comniandant inspected No. 86 Company, Carterton Cadets, and No. 88 Company, Hikorangi Native College Cadets, the combined companies being 110 strong. The boys were put through a course of physical drill by Lieut. McC-rystell. At 7.15 the party left for Masterton, arriving at the Drill Hall shortly before 8 o'clock. They were received by the Acting-Mayor (Mr. J. P. Prentice), Messrs G. iR.. Sykes. M.P., W. «. Welch, Chairman County Council, and the 'following officers, Majors Cook. Inder and Cameron; Captain Hosking, Lie.utenain.ts Cowie. Wilson, Sharp,' Jackson, Andrews, Cameron and Welch. A numbejr of ladies were also present. i The General inspected Companies 82. 83, 84, and 85, representing 120 cadets. They were exercised in physical drill by Sergeant-Major Talbot. At tihe different centres the Commandant addressed the Cadets, and complimented them on their drill and general appearance, and encouraged them to try and become as efficient as possible. He was pleased to be able to tell them that Sliev would all be properly armed in a short time. Rifles were now on their way from England, and would be distributed immediately on arrival. To-day General Godley and party will :proceed to Eketahuna, where ihe will No. Bj. Company, and later proceed to Pahiatua and inspect Companies! 78 and 79, returning to Wellington oiii .Friday.
