ANOTHER WIN FOR OXFORD

A MEMORABLE CONTEST. (Receved March 14, 8'.5 a.m.) LONDON, March 13. Oxford University beat Cambridgo University in the annual boat raco by three-quarters of a length. Cambridge won the toss, and chose the Surrey side. The weather was fine ,and there was a light following wind. The 'Smooth water favoured Cambridge, who were quickest away. At the mile they were a longth ahead, and at Hammersmith a length and a half. At Chis'iviek Oxford spurted, and reduced the lead to half a length at Barns Bridge. Cambridge maintained the lead till a quarter of a mile from the finish, when Oxford made an effort which will be memorable in boat racing annals. The crew, putting an immense amount of, power into their work, crept up inch bv inch. Cambridge could not respond to the calls for a spurt, but led to within 150 yards of tho finish, when Oxford came hand over hand, and won a magnificentlyfought race by three-quarters of a length. Time. 20min o3sec. The Prince of Wales followed the race in the umpire's launch. Oxford have now won the race F>H times, and Cambridge 30. In 1577 tlie race resulted in a dead heat. Last year R. C. Bourne stroked the Oxford eight .for the fourth time in succession'—a record for the event.
