'Heavy rain 'has fallen steadily all day and 'has, (besides filling all our empty tanks, done a great deal of good to the surrounding district' which has borne a, very parched appearance for same time. Mr Sykes, M.P., paid a visit to the local school on Tuesday afternoon, and gave a brief address to the scholars. Later in the afternoon he was waited on by a deputation, wtliioli pointed out the necessity for increasing the accommodation at the railway station, and other requirements. Attention was also drawn to the dangerous condition of what is known as the Muddy Bridge also muter the control of the Railway Department. The member gave the speakers a sympathetic hearing;, and promised to do what ho could for the settlers. I understand the Masterton Pipe Band are paving us a. visit evening, and will play a number of selections in the neighbourhood of Mr R. Cameron's residence. On account of the spread of blackberries and other noxious weeds, the forest reserve, which lies between Kaiparoro and Hastwell, and which, comprises well over a thousand acres of land, is not viewed with favour by settlers, whose properties adjoin it. The usual monthly meeting of the School Committee was held on the 3rd hist., all the members being present. Miss Taylor, 'who is act'as relieving teacher at the school during the nest eight months, is expected to take up her duties on the 17bh of this month. On .Saturday evening a progressive SUoliTe tournament was held in the •hall, where an enjoyable evening wns spent. The ladies' prize, was won by Mrs Eenall, 'and the gentlemen's by Mr Sunkel. Mi' A.
