NELSON CONVENTION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NELSON, Last Night. Tihe W.O.T.U. Convention to-day adopted resolutions protesting against packet licenses being issued for coastal and rifer .steamers, against the transmission of betting matter by the Post and Telegraph services, urging that engine drivers, pilots and signailmen should abstain from intoxicants, expressing sympathy with the relatives of Captain Scott and his comrades, commending the action of Judge Edwards in ordering offenders against women and children to be flogged, and urging an amendment of the,law to enable those guilty of criminal assaults to be similarly dealt with. The Union also passed a resolution congratulating Presidents in the American States, which liave carried manhood suffrage. The Rev G. Dawson, secretary of the N. Z. Alliance, addressed the on the progress of the prohibition campaign. Thisevening the Convention was addressed by a number of members on good citizenship.
