ABOUT A FOAL.
AN INTERESTING CASE,
A case of interest to horse-owners occupied the Magistrate's Court in Carterton for .several hours yesterday. C. Fairbrother, of Carterton, claimed from C McCullough, of Masterton, a sum of £SO damages. It was alleged for the plaintiff that he placed a mare and filly foal in the custody of the defendant. When the mare was returned, it was accompanied by a colt foal, and not by the filly. A considerable number of witnesses were called, on both sides. The defence was that the foal <scnt with the mare Tiad been returned, and expert witnesses were called to show that it was exceedingly improbable that a mare would take to a foal that wsis not her own. Mr L. G. Reid, S.M., said the evidence was of such a conflicting nature that ho-had' no alternative but to nonsuit the plaintiff, each side to pay their own cost-s. Mr Hart appeared for the .plaintiff, and Mr P. L. Hollings for the defendant.
