THEATRICAL SOCIETY.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Masterton Amateur Theatrical Society was held in Murray's Hall, Masterton, last evening, Mr W. Iggulden presiding over a large and enthusiastic gathering of ladie« and gentlemen. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, the chairman stated that the report was a most satisfactory one, showing '.lie finances of the Society to be in a very flourishing condition, the credit balance being £93 12s 7d, which was a record for tho Society, He referred to the great success of the production of "H.M.S. Pinafore," which was the best work yet done by the Society. The success of the piece was greatly due to the efforts of Mr R. J. Young, Miss Roberts and Miss Richards, while the harmony which existed amongst the members was also responsible for a great deal. Tt was decided to this year produce "The Geisha," and ho was sure that if the members worked with the same zeal as last year, they might expect stdi better results. 'lhe adoption the report and bal-ance-sheet was seconded by Mr EI- ' coate, and carried with acclamation. The following officers were elected : Patron, Mr H. H. Beeth'am ; president, Mr W. H. Beethani: vice-pre-sidents, Dr's. Cowie and Prior, Messrs W. H. Jackson, W. B. Chen noils. W. H. Cruickshank, G. R. Svkes, M.P., F, G. Maun,sell, 11. F. Beetham and Rev. Watson; committee, Messrs W. Iggulden, H. J. Francis, F. H. Ele.oate, ,7. Gray, G. Sutton, H. P. Hugo, A. Miller. D. Walsh ; selection committee, Messrs H. Hall, H. J. Francis, W. S. Jago, 'and W. Iggulden ; treasurer, Mr W. S. Jagosecretary, Mr H. C. Roberts;, auditor, Mr H. J. Francis; director, Mr R. J. Young; pianist, Miss E. Richards; wardrobe committee, Mrs Gray, Misses Cameron, Jago, McCarthy and Murray ; property master, Mr Truscott; stage manager, Mr H. Hall. Tho chairman, in his concluding remarks, referred to the excellent work of the Society's secretary (Mr H. C. Roberts), whose splendid work was responsible for much of the success which attended the efforts of the Society in the past year. He also moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr S. Noble-Campbell for the great assistance rendered the Society, and also the press for the valuable aid given in writing up tho .Society's productions, .Mr R. J. Young, in a few remarks to tho members, said lie hoped that by enthusiastic and steady work this year's production would be even bettor than that of last year. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated a very successful meeting.
