THE LICENSING QUESTION.
,There is a good deal of speculation throughout the Dominion as to .vhether the present Government, will bring down a 1 Licensing Bill during its term of office. Tlio opinion is expressed in some quarters that Mr Masscy will, if possible, allow things to remain as they are. As against this, however, it is asserted that a not inconsiderable section of the House, including a nuim'bcr of lieformers. are determined that the three-fifths majority on the national issue shall be reduced. The position is therefore likely to bo very interesting, It may be that the Prime Minister will isuggest that a private member introduce a Bill. This would, of course, mean that the measure would have littlo chance of becoming law. 'l'llp Massoy Government has a number of important policy measures to bring down this session, and it is exceedingly improbable that it will encourage legislation of so highly controversial a nature as that pertaining to the licensing question.
