THE ARBITRATION ACT.

VV'lien the Reform Government came .o power, the hope was fervently expressed that it would put an end, as jpeedily as possible, to the tyranny chat has grown up under the Arbitration Act. The Prime Minister has intimated his intention of bringing down an amendment of the Act, but there i.s, so far, no. indication of what the scope of the measure will be. In view of the Waihi and slaughtermen's trouble, it is absolutely essential that 'something should he done to protect industry against the harassing tactics of those who are clamouring for the nationalisation of the means of production. The country is sick almost unto death of labour trobles and labour legislation. It wants a rest, and it looks to Mr Massey either to'i<iend .'or <>nd the Arbitration Act. Tho existing conditions are intoleraible.
