A HOSPITAL GRANT.

The Wellington Harbour Board, by seven votes to six, has decided to make a grant of £lO to tho Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board.' The excuse offered for making the contribution is that a number of employees of tho Harbour Board become inmates of tlie hospital. It is as well to point out that the Harbour Board represents three hospital and charitable aid districts; that its funds are not derived solely from Wellington; and that its employees are presumed to be a charge against the district in which they reside, and not against the combined districts. In these circumstances, .we cannot help thinking that the Board has established a dangerous precedent, in making a donation to the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. It might .he as well that the opinion. of the AuditorGeneral be taken on the subject.
