MR HOGG AND DEFENCE.
Mr A. W. Hogg is entitled to his opinion on the defence question. He is doubtless oon.seienticais in the belief that the Dominion is going too far in military matters, and is expecting too much of its young people. This opinion: is not'shared by the generality of th 0 public. It is a significant com. mentary irpon the attitude cf Mi' Hogg that, at tho very ittoment that ho was declaiming against the growth of the military spirit, at the Education Board table, an enthusiastic clay parade of Territorials and .Senior Cadets was being held in his own distnet. We are firmly convinced that, when the organisation becomes more perfect, the young people will regard military drill ns a pleasure as well as a duty. In the meantime, no useful purpose can be served by violently attacking a. •system that has been adopted by the will cf the great majority of the people.
