RIFLE SHOOTING
THE PAPAWAJ MEETING. The annual meeting of the Wairarapa Rifle Association opened at Papawai yesterday, when there were a large number of competitors, including some of the best shots of the Dominion. Shooting began at 8 o'clock, and occasional showers of rain 1011, while a iff breeze blew across the range. The Extra Match, 300 yards, 10 •shots, "was won by Rifleman A. J. Letham, of Auckland, with a score ef 48. Tn the Carterton Match (500 and GOO vards) Rifleman Henderson, of the .Sounds Rifle Club (Marlborough), put up the "possible" at each range, scoring fourteen bull's eyes in succession. His score was therefore 70. The next 011 the list was F. Minton, of the Opaki Rifle Club, who put on the respectable score of 68. G. Hyde, of the Opaki Club, scored G7. The meeting is being continued today. -
