Questioned to-day regarding ' I'/; Gear Company's actio'! in discharging slaughtermen on Saturday on the ground that tliey were not doing sufficient work in killing only six sheep an hour, while they were able to do twelve, Mr Reardon, secretary of the Slaughtermen's Federation, said the company's action would only n-ike t iia men more decided in adhering to the demands of the Federation. He had a good insight into the working of "free" labourers, and was bei'fcef pleased than ever at the new position The Gear Company's action ivc v d only tend to put the men's teeth, on edge. Mr Reardon added that the Canterbury slaughtermen had abandoned the idea of accepting 27s fid per 100.
