The Observer states that five ol the ships to he included in the forthcoming* programme will be neithei battleships nor battle cruiser* 1 , but a hybrid type. They will be of 25.01K, ton~ displacement, with 13J inch armour. Their speed will, be 25 knots, and tiiov will carry 15 or IGjfin gun^. The tiew armoured cruisers will bo •;:>;) tons heavier than their_ predoce.ssorf, while submersibles will replace destroyers. The' new type of the submersible will have a surface speed approaching that- cf the river typo of destroyers-.
