FENCING DISPUTE
WHICH ENDS IN ASSAULT. At the Magistrate's Court at Masterton yesterday, before Messrs J. Wingate and J. Brown, J.'sP., three young men named J-nines Hourigan, John Atkinson and Denis Honrigan were charged, on information, with assaulting Alfred Tins by and threatening him with further violence. Informant asked that Hie accused be bound over to keep rho peace. » The charge arose out of a boundary fence dispute between neighbouring farmers at Manaia. The case against Denis Hourigan was dismissed, as there was no evidence to -show that he committed actual assault. James Hourigan and Atkiuson practically admitted the assault, in their evidence, and pleaded provocation. ¥. Price and E. Ros c . gavj; evidence of the assault, and there defendants were bound over, each in one surety of £lO, to keep the peace for six months and pay the cost,? of the prosecution, M'v Ho'Hings appeared" for the informant, and Mr Jordan for the ac cused. The Bench allowed the delendants 24 hours in which to find sureties.
