OVER THE POLAR TRAGEDY. MEMORIAL SERVICES IN BRITAIN. (Received Last Night, 8.10 o'clock.) LONDON, February 16. The sermons preached in the churches and chapels throughout Great Britain to-day showed universal sorrow and admiration for Captain Scott and his companions, and deep sympathy with their relatives. The "Dead March in Saul" was played in hundreds of places of worship. General Grcely, on behalf of the survivors of the ISBI International Polar Expedition to Lady Franklin Bay, lias telegraphed from Rome to Lord Curzon 3 paying a high tribute to the heroes.
MEMORIAL SERVICES. A TRAGIC INCIDENT. (Received Last Night, 11.15 o'clock.) LONDON, February 17. Mrs Scctt and her daughter* were present at a memorial service in Henley Church. ■ The Bishop of Birmingham preached at St. Augustine's, iklgebaston,, of which the Rev. Bruce is the incumbent and Captain Scott's brother-in-law. The Lord Mayor, Sir Oliver Lodge and other notabilities were present. The Rev. Griffiths, Vicar of Pimsley. preaching from St. Matthew, 10th chapter, 39th verse, after referring to Captain Scott dying at his. post, fell dead in the pulpit. Queen Alexandra telegraphed to Scott's mother as follows; "My whole heart goes out to you and your poor daughter-in-law, in this fearful calamity. As brave son he achieved his great aim."
IMPRESSIVE CEREMONY. IN SYDNEY SCHOOLS. (Received Last Night, 11.15 o'clock.) SYDNEY, February 17. Tho keynote of to-day's ceremony in the public schools, in connection with the deatli of Captain Scott and his comrades, was its irnpressiveness. As the clock struck noon the children stood reverently for several moments. Tho .story of the tragedy was read by the teachers of each class and briefly discussed.
