MOTOR TRAFFIC
.IMPORTANT ABSOLUTIONS. (By Telegraph.—Tress Association.) MARTON, Last Xight. A' conference, promoted'by the Rangitikei County Council, was held here on 'Saturday of representatives of adjacent local bodies and automobile associations, to consider the adopting of an uniform by-law for motor traffic. Considerable discussion took place re the Government tax for the upkeep of the roa<ls. It was resolved unanimously that the Government should impose a tax on cars, th!e proceeds to he- handed to and expended by local bodies for the roads affected by motor traffic. It was recommended that a special board be set up to allocate the distribution of the proceeds: that a higher tax be. imposed on cars plying for hire; and that a. license to play for hire, granted in one distract, hold good in all other districts, such fee to lie uniform throughout the Dominion. Tt' was further resolved that regulations under clause 3 of the Motor Regulation Act. 1908, be issued, providing that all persons plying for hire bp examined and tested medically and otherwise, to ensure, that they are oomnotent to. drive. Copies of the resolution are to he sent to the Government.
