IS IT A HOAX?

A WOMAN'S STRANGE STORY. (B u Tel efj ra ph.—Press .1 ssbc i a Hon.) WHANG ARE!, Last Night. The police were ini'onhed last night that a woman named Marvin was found 1 bound and gagged in her own home. The woman -stated that at £ o'clock a. young man came to the door with a note for her husband, supposed. to have conic from the Superintendent of the Kii'e Brigade, her huso.-ind (icing a. member of the team that left-to-day for \Yangallui to take part in the Demonstration. She thought it a genuine note, and asked that her husband would go and see thp Superintendent. Five minutes after the husband left, the woman went to hoc bedroom and there she was so:>;;-d by two yoinifr men, nnd a handkerchief thrust in her mouth. Her money was demanded or they "would choke the lifp out of hor." A heavy picturecord was placed round her thro.it, and pulled till she was nearly strangled. She told her assailants that the money was in a. chest of drawers. Thp -sum of £ll in notes and l(ss in silver was missing. Three months previously thp samp woman .states that she had encountered the same men, when £3 and some jewellery were stolen. When her husband came home half an hour later he found bis wife unconscious on the floor. The police arp reticent, making thp public assume that- they arp treating the matter as a hoax.
