LANSDOWNE WATER SUPPLY

REPOKT OF BOARD OF MANAGERS. At tlio monthly meeting of the Maalerton County Council yestc.'day aftemoon, the managers of the Lansdowne Water-supply Board forwarded the following resolutions, at a meeting of the Board, held on-Feb-ruary 4th: (1) That, the Board requests-. the County Cpuneil to discontinue fouling the water-raco jrorn the Waipipi stream to the dam, under section."B -of the Water-supply Act, 1908; (2) That the Council be requested to notify those persons mentioned in Dr Chcsson'.s report who are responsible for the pollution of tlie supply, threatening proceedings i under section 61 of the "Public Health Act, 1908," unless measures are taken to prevent pollution of the water; (3) That the Board recommends that the work of replacing chocked piping along the dam, lie at I once undertaken, and suggests that an open race with concrete bottom and sides, where necessary, would be effective and easily kept clean, and request that an expert's opinion be taken, on the matter, and that if the open race suggested is considered pos[sible, estimates bo obtained of its I cost mid, further, that tlie Council advise the committee as to how the necessary money may bo raised for the purpose of'carrying out the expert's recommendations; (4) It was resclved that the caretaker be empowered to employ labour to clean out the head works. The chairman-(Cr Welch) said that no doubt the Council would see its : way to agree to the recommendations contained in the report, but the laising of the money necessary was another matter, and might lie found to bo rather difficult. ' , Cr Cameron said that the only way to rai-e. the money would be by means* of a special lean. It. was decided, on the motion of Cr Foreman, that the recommendations be given effect to, and that the County Clerk be. instructed to take steps, in with the agers, to find out the : best means of raising 'tho necessary- money, as soou as the cost of the. undertaking is asieertnined.
