BOROUGH COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING. Tim monthly meeting of the Masterton Borough Council was hold in the Council ■ Chambers last evening, - there being present—His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. M. Coradino), Crs H\ J. O'Learv, J. Elliott. F. W. Temple, E. Flanagan, W. Pragnell, •T. C. Ewington, J. P. Prentice, ami A. Donald. An application for a license to drive a taxi-cab was received, and it was decided that the matter be held: over, pending a report from the Sergeant of Police. A letter was received from tliflr Masterton Chamber of Commerce, stating that the Minister of Public? Works was to pay a visit to Masterton at an early date, and asked the Council to appoint a. committee to act in conjunction with other _ local" bodies to arrango to receivo the Minister. Tt-was decided that the Mayor and Crs Elliott, Pragnell # and Donald bo appointed a committee to act with representatives of other local bodies. The application of a ratepayer to have his rates rebated was acceded»to. It was decided to call applications? locally for the position of assistanttown clerk, the applications to bo received hy Monday next. The reports of tho borough engineer, gas manager t manager of abattoirs, librarian and pomtd-kofper were read and adopted.
