POLICE FORCE
IMPORTANT CHANGES ANNOUNCED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Last Night. Important new regulations in regard to the administration and cr.ntrol of the police force will appear in a Supplementary Gazette to-morrow. One of these deals with'the personnel. Owing to the growth of work at the four chief centres, the inspectors arc unable to devote as much time to supervision as is desirable, and to remedy this, it is proposed hy the Minister of Justice, as stated to-night, to' make chief police officers in the four centres, Inspectors Ellison, Kelly, Mitchell and Dwyer superintendents, and the following promotions and transfers will' take place in consequence of the change in rank of the present inspectors: Sub-Inspector Hondrey will con.e to Wellington, and act as Inspect)!' under Superintendent Ellison ; SubJnspectoY M.cOiatn. of Christchurch. willgo to Auckland as Inspector, ;inuer Superintendent 'Mitchell; SeniorSergeants .Johns-ton and 'McKinnm will ho promoted to the rank of subInspectors, and.will take tlie place oi the' sub-Inspectors who are being promoted ; ..senior-sergeant Johnston is going to Auckland, and senior-ser-geant. McKiiinon is going to C'hrist-c-hurcl). Them are a. number of vacancies in the rank*:- of the sergeants, caused by deaths and retirements, and promotions to tho,o positions will be- filled shortly, and probahlv before the end of the present month, there will he of pay in the various grades of the ' service, which, -with." the changv's mentioned, will come into force m April Ist.
