THE SLAUGHTERMEN
STILL MARKING TIME. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. Last Night. ; "Still marking time" describes the present position in Canterbury in respect to the slaughtermen's strike.: There are as yet no indications of. the Slaughtermen's Union giving way, and a member of the Union informedl a reporter that members were prepared to fight to the bitter end. It is possible that somb way out of the existing deadlock will be decided upon by the'conference to be held in Wellington to-morrow., but no information beyond the fact that the two local freezing companies will be represented at the conference was obtainable, as to the pro posaly to be discussed by the conference. TO-DAY'S CONFERENCE. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Both sides in the slaughtermen's dispute are reticent, and no new developments were announced to-day. Much interest centres in the conference of freezing companies, to be held to-morrow, but nothing can* be gleaned as to what the outcome os< likely to be.
