ACCUSED COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. EVIDENCE OF MRS TROTTER, (Received Last Night, 11.21) o'clock.) MELBOURNE, January 30. Ha rold Thompson "has been committed for trial on a charge of murder ? ing Trotter on January 7th. Bail was refused. Mrs Trotter gave evidence at the inquest that both burglars appeared slim, one being taller than the other. The voice of the taller one seemed boyish, and was breaking into manhood. The voice of the accused did not appear the same. Thompson's voice was the gntff low-toned voice of a man. Thompson did uot seem slim built. The coat worn by the taller mam was striped .something like the one produced, and the felt hat produced was something like the one worn by the taller of the two. Nobody, to her knowledge, knew where the money was kept-. She went once to see Thompson but was unable to identify him. The evidence against Thompson consisted of a fingerprint on the win-dow-sill of the back window, an expert stating that the characteristics agreed to those of Thompson's finger. (Mr Trotter, a debt collector for a big Melbourne firm, was nmrdered in., the presence of his Wife, the" object of his murderers bein gto secure £2OO, which Mr Trotter lint] jn the house. Trotter was shot while in bed-, his wife and child witnessing the deed:)

SITUATION NOT IMPROVED. (Received January SO, 9.55 a.m.) SYDNEY, January 30. The Northern mining situation has not improved. The Proprietors' Association has replied to the Employees' Federation that a conference cannot he held until the Burwood mine resumes. The reply was considered! at a meeting of the Delegate Board of the Employees' Federation', which passed a resolution that failing arrangements being made for a conference within seven days an aggregate .meeting of employees be called to consider the position.
