WANGANUI HARBOUR

AN IMPORTANT EYENT. " (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WANGANUI, Last Night. An event of some importance in the history of Wanganui was the arrival, to-day of the Union Steamship Company's Kittawa. of 1246 tons,, and the largest steamer which has yet entered the port. The steamer arrived: here with half a cargo of coal from NewPlymouth, and drew about eleven feet. At spring tides the steamer could ha.ve negotiated the river channel drawing a couple of feet more. The excellent condition of the river is due to the works being carried out by the Harbour Board. There is mow a depth of 2o feet, at a place where there was a bar with a depth of 11 feet a few yea/i'3 ago. The Government steamer Tutanekai is .also a visitor, to the port.
