LAKE COLERIDGE WORKS.
A telegram from Christchureh indicates that tlio Lake Coleridge hydroelectrical works are practically at a standstill, and there is a prospect of a portion of the contract, if not th© whole, being determined. In view of tho clamant demands for money for load and railway works, and tho difticuJty that is being experienced in raking money, it would probably b«
to the advantage oi' the Dominion to allow this work to remain in abeyance for a period. , It is not of particular and the expenditure of a considerable .sum of money will be involved in bringing it to completion. The necessity for curtailing expenditure upon public works is to be deplored ; but, in view of all the circumstances, the Minister will deserve well of the constituencies for devoting whfit money is available to the carrying- out of the more urgent undertakings. The "money no object" days have gone—it is to be hoped for ever.
